On 5/28/11 at 4:30 p.m. members of the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to the 800 block of NE Rice Road on the report of a fire in the dumpster behind the shopping area. Upon arrival, a dumpster to the north of the business was found to be on fire and was quickly brought under control. While examining the contents of the dumpster as part of the fire investigation a body was located in the bottom of the dumpster. The Police Department was summoned to the scene along with the Missouri State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Jackson County Medical Examiners Office. At this time, investigators are trying to determine the identity of the deceased and the investigation into the incident is on-going.

The Police Department has released that the body found burned in the dumpster was that of a white male adult. The investigation is still underway to determine the identity of the deceased before his name is released.

The identity of the deceased has been confirmed as Robert A. Hotujac a 52 year old male from Kansas City, Missouri. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is still ongoing.

The Lee’s Summit Missouri Police Department has concluded its investigation into the death of Robert A. Hotujac. The cooperative investigation involved the Lee’s Summit Police Department and the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation consisted of interviews, evidence collection, physical examinations and review of surveillance footage in support of the on-scene investigation. The case has been classified as a suicide and is now closed.
