Downed Power Lines Close Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO— On Tuesday, March 01, 2011, at approximately 5 p.m., Kansas City Power & Light crews reported to the Lee’s Summit Police Department that they were on scene of a power pole fire at 2150 NW Lowenstein Drive. KCP&L reported to the Police Department that the fire was out, however power lines from the pole that crossed the east and westbound lanes of I-470 between Pryor Road and View High Drive, were endanger of dropping onto the highway.
Law enforcement and KC Scout closed both lanes of I-470 between Pryor Road and View High Drive to allow KCP&L crews to safely lower and secure the lines. At 6:50 p.m. the lines were secured and all lanes of I-470 were reopened to normal traffic.
KCP&L will make further repairs to the pole at a later date.
