Candle Fire Damages Lee’s Summit Home

LEE’S SUMMIT, MO— On Monday, March 14, 2011, at 3:49 a.m. the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 300 block of NE Sharon Drive. The original report was of a fire in the kitchen.

When the fire department arrived, there was nothing visible from the outside of the house. The Police Department was also on scene and reported the occupant had extinguished a small fire in a bedroom, but the house was still filled with smoke.

Firefighters confirmed that the fire was out and assisted the occupants out of the house. One of the occupants was transported by ambulance to an area hospital as a precaution.

Fire damage was confined to a small area of a bedroom with minor smoke damage to the remainder of the house. The house was able to be reoccupied.

The fire was determined to be caused by an unattended candle in the bedroom.
