One subject killed in fatality accident on US-50 Highway, Lee’s Summit

On Friday, 10-22-2010 at approximately 3:45pm, officers responded to the area of US 50 Highway and SW 3rd Street on a reported injury accident.

Upon arrival, officers determined that three vehicles were involved. Initial reports indicate that a Jeep Cherokee traveling in the westbound lanes of 50 Highway crossed over into the eastbound lanes and was struck by a tractor trailer traveling in the eastbound lanes. The tractor trailer then crossed over the median from the east bound lanes into the westbound lanes and came to rest on the shoulder of the roadway. A third vehicle, a pickup truck heading westbound observed the tractor trailer cross the median and took evasive action and struck a guard rail.

The driver of the Jeep Cherokee, a 23 year old male subject was pronounced dead at the scene. The drivers of the two other vehicles were transported to local hospitals with non life threatening injuries. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

UPDATE 10/23/2010: The victim in the fatality crash on 10/22/2010 on US 50 Highway has been identified as 23 year old Mark W. Prigge of Blue Springs, MO.
