Last Friday September 17th at 11:10 am, police officers were dispatched to 260 NW Oldham Pkwy, Mazuma Credit Union, on the report of a suspicious person leaving a book bag outside the business. Witnesses from inside the business reported the suspicious person, a white male in dark jeans and a dark T-shirt, walking away from the bank after dropping the book bag behind a trash can outside. Arriving officers confirmed the presence of the bag and began securing the area.
Once the area was secured with surrounding businesses closed and evacuated the LSPD Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit began their examination of the bag. After determining the bag contained electrical components the EOD unit used a proven technique to disrupt or render the bag and its contents safe.
After the scene was determined safe evidence was collected to further any investigation and the scene was opened to allow for normal traffic and business. Although the incident disrupted traffic and closed businesses for a period of three hours the necessity was to ensure the safety of both persons and property.
