The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District Aquatic Center will offer a free introductory aqua zumba class from 9 to 10 a.m. Sept. 18 at the center, located at 3498 SW Windemere Drive on the campus of Summit Lakes Middle School.
Aqua zumba is a Latin-inspired, easy-to-follow, calorie-burning, dance fitness workout. It is taught by Ann Marie Cotto, licensed zumba instructor.
There is no need to make a reservation for the course, and all interested individuals are invited to participate in the one-time introductory class, offered in the center’s 25-yard by 50-meter pool. Information about future aqua zumba classes, which will begin during October, will be available at the Sept. 18 introductory class.
The Aquatic Center opened in 2009 with its primary goal to provide a swim/dive facility for high-school competitive teams, intramurals and instruction. It is also designed to serve the community through recreational, fitness and competitive programs while remaining self-supporting.
The Aquatic Center offers a number of programs that are open to the community, including swimming lessons, conditioning for swim teams, aqua aerobics and opportunities for open lap swimming. In addition, the center is available for rental by swimming and diving organizations for practices and competitions as well as by other organizations and individuals for private parties and other events.
