The nine week program will begin on September 15th, and will meet every Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Lee’s Summit Fire Station 7, located at 2150 SW Scherer Road.

The CERT program will provide basic training to civilians on how to protect themselves and those around them in the event of an emergency. Topics covered in the program include:

Disaster Preparedness Disaster Fire Suppression

Disaster Medical Operations Light Search and Rescue

The program includes classroom instruction from local public safety agencies, the National Weather Service and public utilities. There are also a number of “hands on” exercises throughout program and final exercise before graduation. Safety equipment and gear will be issued to each student.

Class size is limited, and acceptance will be on a first come first serve basis. If you are a resident of the City of Lee’s Summit and interested in participating in the CERT program, contact the Lee’s Summit Fire Department at (816) 969-1300 for an application.
