Clowning around town

August 1-7 was International Clown Week. On Aug. 2, Clowns from Odessa, Greenwood, Raytown, and Raymore converged on Greenwood and Raymore where Mayors Megee and Alvarez honored the clowns with proclamations for Clown Week.

Included were Jeanne “Sassy” Moore and Martha “Mr. Nobody” Hawthorne from Caring Christian Clowns and Mary “Tutalu” Pech, Sherri “Gertie” Davis, Diane “Smiley” Reynolds, Debbie “Sparky” Hjerpe, and Tonya “Lady Bug” Dearborn along with our young visitors Taylor “Chub” Gramble and Jadyn “Jo” Gramble from 4 Ever Young Clown Alley. The clowns had fun entertaining children at the Raymore Summer Quest Camp.

On August 3, more clown entertainment at the Raymore Neighborhood Night Out. Four more clowns joined in the festivities, Connie “Tater” Lundeen, Lizzy “Kizzy” Rhodes, Shawn “Sunny” Bullock, and Jen “Bing” Bullock. Children enjoyed clown car rides, balloons, magic tricks and some fun clowning around.

Birthday fun at City Union Mission Shelter.

On Saturday August 7, the clowns treated the residents at City Union Mission Shelter to a birthday party. For this celebration, Paula “Frog-ee” South and John “Jocko” South, joined the others to do magic tricks, games, tattoos, and balloons. Sunny the Clown provided a beautiful balloon birthday party cake. What a great time that was for kids, adults, and clowns.

Clown week has come to an end, but these clowns have been known to frequent area restaurants all year long. When you see them be sure to stop and say “hi”.
