Free Lee’s Summit Photo Walk lets all ages capture new views of downtown

The first Lee’s Summit Photo Walk will guide walkers on a free, two-hour stroll in and around downtown Lee’s Summit to take photographs and share fun from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24. All ages and abilities can take part by registering at www.leessummitphotowalk.org. A limited number of cameras will be available for those who want to participate but do not own a camera.
“See and share the world close to home” is the guiding concept for the Photo Walk. Photographer-walkers will progress at their own pace along a route that begins in front of Lee’s Summit City Hall. At the end of two hours, a social gathering at Mingle, 209 SE Main Street (across from the historic train station), will give participants a chance to cool off and talk about their experiences.

Influential Expression Consulting, Mingle and Writing on the Wall Grafix are organizing the inaugural Lee’s Summit Photo Walk. Influential Expression owner Deb Sturgess says, “When I learned what a photo walk is, I knew one would be perfect for Lee’s Summit.” Jessica Kurzweil of Mingle restaurant and Angie O’Connor of WOW Grafix quickly jumped in to help organize the details.
Russell Walker of Walker Williams Photography is joining the walk to answer photography questions. Local merchants have donated disposable cameras and some participants have volunteered loaner cameras so everyone who wants to can take part.
The GreenSummit Dispatch is sponsoring an optional competition by donating a generous prize for the Overall Best Photo. The GreenSummit Dispatch will also be the first to publish winning photos.
The Custom Framers will professionally frame winning photographs in five categories and Blue Heron Designs will provide prizes for first runners-up. Categories are Children (12 and under), Young Adults (13 to 18), Adults (19 to 64), Distinguised Adults (65 and over) and Professionals.
Parents may bring children in strollers. Wheelchairs are also welcome.
