The 2010 Missouri State Fair will offer a variety of free family entertainment including the exhilarating Cowboy Mounted Shooters Pro Classic State Fair Championship sponsored by Starline Brass, Inc. of Sedalia.
Fairgoers will have two opportunities to see this high-energy show on Sunday, August 15, and Monday, August 16, both shows beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Fairgrounds. The event is free with Fair admission.
“Cowboy Mounted Shooting is one of the fastest growing equine sports in the country and we are excited to have them back this year,” said Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe.
The sport combines both skilled horseback riding and straight shooting. Spectators will enjoy a race to the finish as riders use .45 caliber single-action revolvers to pop balloon targets while maneuvering through various targets on horseback at top speeds.
Cowboy Mounted Shooting is just one of many free competitions that fairgoers can enjoy from the stands. On Sunday, August 15, the Super Teen Contest will take place in the Donnelly Arena at 6:00 p.m. followed by the Super Farmer contest on Monday, August 16, at 12:30 p.m. in the Mathewson Exhibition Center, both contests are sponsored by Sedalia Expert Tire. Hedrick’s Pig Races, sponsored by Socket, will take place several times each day located west of the Gerken Dairy Center.
In addition to competitions, this year’s Fair will offer a host of free shows for the entire family. Strongman vs. 25 Ton CAT, sponsored by Dean Machinery, will take place August 12 to 14 along State Fair Blvd. south of the Pepsi Grandstand, a cappella group InPulse will have three performances August 16 and 17 on the Touchstone Energy Stage, and Ronald McDonald will delight children twice daily on the Kids Stage August 12 to 15.
Other shows with multiple performances scheduled for the 11-day Fair include “JUMP” the Ultimate Dog Show west of the Agriculture Building sponsored by Sprint, Wizard’s Challenge on display at the Family Fun Center sponsored by Children’s Trust Fund, and The Amazing Anastasini Circus under the Big Top north of the midway entrance sponsored by McDonalds.
The Missouri State Fair will be held August 12 to 22 in Sedalia. Free entertainment and a variety of competitions help make the Fair an affordable and memorable experience for all Missourians. Visit mostatefair.com for more information.
