Conservative Values Needed in Jefferson City

Mike Parker, candidate for State Representative in the Missouri House of Representatives for District 55.

On March 8, 2010, Mike Parker announced his candidacy for State Representative in the Missouri House of Representatives for District 55. Since that time, he has received an seemingly enormous outpouring of support from his fellow residents and has received endorsements from Missouri Right to Life and the Metro Kansas City Tea Party.

Strong Republican leadership has defined District 55 for the past 30 years. Parker believes we need to continue the tradition of representation that shares our community’s strong conservative values and the willingness to stand up for them in Jefferson City, even in the face of strong pressure to compromise those values. He also believes that we need a proven leader with the ability to build effective working relationships with those of differing opinions to facilitate progress for our district and our state. He meets all of these criteria and would appreciate the support of all conservatives on August 3rd.

Parker is a true conservative, and has a deep respect for the Constitution. He believes that those who represent us should assume they have no power over us at all, unless they can specifically point to the clause in the Constitution that grants them any said power. Our representatives take an oath to defend the Constitution and this is an oath he has vowed to take very seriously.

Parker believes strongly in the unborn’s right to life and opposes abortion. He also believes that marriage is a sacred union, created by God, and should continue to be limited to between a man and a woman. In addition, he is a member of the NRA as well as an avid hunter, and will defend our 2nd Amendment rights in Jefferson City. Parker is committed to being the advocate conservatives deserve in Jefferson City, ensuring that these values remain at the forefront of Missouri politics.

Parker believes that two of the major issues facing our district today are the underfunding of schools and new development in district 55, Blue Springs in particular. We have a constitutional mandate in Missouri that makes funding schools the primary responsibility of the state. Even with the current budget shortfall, Parker does not believe we should be cutting nearly as much money from our schools. He completely supports fully funding both the school foundation formula and career ladder program that compensates teachers for work beyond the normal call of duty. Children are our future and we need to make them our priority.

Regarding the issue of development, Parker feels that Blue Springs, as well as all of District 55, has been fighting stagnation for several years. That stagnation has finally started to turn back into growth with the development we are seeing on Adam’s Dairy Parkway and he fully supports this new development. He believes strongly that it is going to help keep tax dollars local and create new jobs in the community. Representation must advocate for development, and Parker will provide that in Jefferson City.
