Leadership Lee’s Summit, organized by the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, is a nine-month educational opportunity that brings together new, emerging and potential leaders to address pertinent needs, strengthen individual leadership abilities, and encourage participants to personally commit to assuming new leadership roles.

Students selected meet once a month beginning early September. Classes are designed to create awareness of and stimulate interest within community issues. City and county leaders from both the public and private sectors provide information, insight and analysis of the specific areas of interest such as education; government; health care; infrastructure and development; economic development; social services; and the history and culture of Lee’s Summit. Sessions often include on-site visits, tours and “hands-on” experiences. Participants also implement and execute a community betterment project. Since the beginning of the program, LLS has graduated over 400 participants.

Approximately 25 participants are selected each year based on strict criteria, including personal motivation, an interest to serve in Lee’s Summit, potential or existing opportunities for advancement to top leadership positions, willingness to commit time and energy to complete the program and full support of the corporation/organization that is represented.

Applications are available online at lschamber.com under “Programs” and then select “Leadership Lee’s Summit”. Tuition to attend the program is $595 for Chamber members; $825 for non-members. Registration fee covers materials and workshops. Tuition is payable by the individual, the employer or the sponsoring organization and is non-refundable. Completed applications should be mailed to the Chamber office, 220 SE Main Street, Lee’s Summit, MO, 64063, no later than August 6, 2010.
