Summer is here which means one of Missouri’s most anticipated events is near, the Missouri State Fair, held this year from August 12 to 22. Ranking at the top of favorite memories at the Fair is the annual Opening Day Parade on Thursday with entries being accepted now through July 26.
“This great tradition promises to be an excellent kick-off to the 11-day event,” says Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe. “Last year attendance topped 50,000 on opening day and I expect similar numbers this year.”
Parade entrants can enter non-judged or six judged categories: Horse, Antique & Classic Car, Farm Vehicle, Theme Float, Theme, and Marching Band. Entrants are encouraged to incorporate the Fair theme, “Growing Great Memories.”
Entry forms are now available in the online Premium Guide at www.mostatefair.com or by calling 800-422-FAIR. Completed forms can be faxed to (660) 827-8162 or mailed to MSF Opening Day Parade, 2503 W. 16th St., Sedalia, MO 65301. The cost per entry is $20.
It is anticipated that the parade will follow the same route as last year, lining up along State Fair Boulevard and entering the grounds through the Main Gate. The procession will then pass by the Pepsi Grandstand, around the half mile track to exit the park.
Opening Day is also Two Buck Bonanza! Along with $2 concession and vendor specials, admission for everyone ages six and up is just $2 with children under five admitted free every day. Opening Day Ceremonies, also on Thursday, August 12, will begin at approximately 10 a.m., in front of the Historic Womans Building, commemorating the building’s 100th anniversary.
The excitement will continue into the evening at the Pepsi Grandstand with a 7:30 p.m. concert by the Eli Young Band and Candy Coburn. Tickets for this performance are $10 and $15 and can be purchased now from Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-796-6776. All other ticketed events are also available now through Ticketmaster.
All tickets can be purchased at the Missouri State Fair Box Office, located on the fairgrounds, beginning Monday, June 28 from noon to 6:00 p.m. weekdays, Monday thru Friday. During the Fair, the Box Office will be open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
The Missouri State Fair will be held August 12 to 22 in Sedalia. Public camping facilities, along with a variety of free entertainment and activities, help make the fair an affordable and memorable experience for all Missourians. Visit www.mostatefair.com for more information.
