Greenwood, June 27, 2010 – Paul and Brenda Weber of Greenwood hosted a breakfast Saturday morning with Missouri’s District 8 Senatorial Candidate Will Kraus. A nice group of people showed up and the discussion was lively but focused on the issues at hand. One thing that comes across very quickly is where Will Kraus stands on the issues and what his belief is about taxes. He stated “I never forget we are spending taxpayers money” when asked about the budget.
The foundation of the candidate’s belief is based on what he told one of the guests, “I’m a fiscal conservative”. When you review his voting record you see that the words are matched by the votes he’s made since becoming Missouri’s District 48 Representative in 2004.
The one striking point that was made during a conversation on the Ford Claycomo plant and Missouri’s effort to keep the jobs here in Kansas City was made when Representative Kraus stated “…while I voted no [for the bill] I will keep an open mind and listen to the new facts and the data being presented before I decide…” There is a difference between the Moderate perspectives shown by Senator McCain during his career (what I term a “fence sitter” perspective) and the position Representative Kraus explained.
Ford Motor Company has an investment in Claycomo. They have many current financial reasons to keep the plant operating here; or they would have left a long time ago. No “for profit” company keeps a plant open out of the goodness of their hearts: that’s just not good business, and Ford has shown to be a very well run company. The big question that the special assembly will have to answer is: Are there enough long term incentives being offered by Michigan, Ohio or Kentucky to offset the fundamental benefits found in Kansas City? Things like: Great Missourian work ethic, low cost energy, low state taxes, easy access to railway heads and highway.

A small gathering gets involved by discussing the Missouri budget and the issues at hand with Will Kraus.
Will Kraus is truly a fiscal conservative who understands that he must invest our tax dollars wisely before voting yes on a bill. Every vote he has taken shows that while he understands the party’s position, first and foremost he evaluates the issue against his conservative beliefs and what his constituents need most: smaller government, less spending, more jobs, and so on.
As we prepare for the August 3rd Elections, it is imperative for all of us to do our homework, to visit the websites that can help us see the voting records and to ask ourselves: How is this candidate going to help us with the key issues that will come up over the coming terms?
What will Missouri face between 2010 and 2012 in my opinion?
The economy is in shambles; Washington is not helping, so Missouri will have to put forth a Herculean effort to bring jobs to the state. It is not enough to keep the jobs we have, it is imperative that we become an incubator for entrepreneurial effort.
Markets in the United States are going to be tight, so Export support will have to be a major priority. We must focus our attention on exports to Latin America, Europe and the Asian Countries. The Missouri Department of Economic Development will need to work closely with the International Trade Council of Greater Kansas City to continue efforts to find export trade partners.
Government cost reductions will be needed to offset the loss of revenue as the economy continues to flounder. Tough decisions will be required to make the right investments of our Tax Dollars.
Federal bills like Cap and Trade, and the Obamacare programs will have to be fought so that they don’t rob jobs from the State of Missouri.
All these things start at the local level with the city councils, they continue up the ladder to the State Houses. We must make educated decisions in selecting our State Representatives, and Senators. This year’s primaries will be very important to all of us in Jackson County. Lee’s Summit, Greenwood, Blue Springs, all must focus our efforts on sending the right people into office; people who know we entrust them with our tax dollars to invest them wisely, to bring economic prosperity back to Missouri.
Get involved, ask questions, discuss the issues, learn the candidate’s positions and vote with knowledge in August.
Respectfully Submitted,
The Lee’s Summit Conservative
