This past week officers of the Lee’s Summit Police Department participated in two separate events in recognition of the 25th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run® to benefit Special Olympics. It’s more than a run; the Torch Run is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics across the state. Nearly 200 agencies and 2,500 officers work year-round in Missouri to accomplish this goal. All funds raised go toward supporting Special Olympics Missouri’s year-round sports training and athletic competition program for more than 15,000 athletes across the state.

On Wednesday May 19th police officer Amanda Geno traveled to Jefferson City to participate in the state level Torch Run commemorating the 25 years of the event. Officer Geno’s participation was special as an officer from Lee’s Summit participated in the inaugural event the first year as well.
