Rebecca Foley and Rebecca Rejnin, Lee’s Summit High School, were honored on stage at the International DECA Career Development Conference held April 23-28 in Louisville, Ky.

The International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is sponsored annually by National DECA. The international conference is the highlight of the year for the approximately 14,000 DECA members, advisors, businesspersons and alumni who attend. More than 8,200 of the participants are at the ICDC as competitors in one of DECA’s competency-based competitive events. Each competitive event has an average of 150 competitors (individuals or teams). Top competitors in each event category are recognized for their outstanding achievements.

Rebecca Foley and Rebecca Rejnin were among 16 Missouri high school students who received a first-place or “Top 10” award for achievement in the Creative Marketing Research Project that focused on the consumption of energy drinks.

Other LSHS DECA members who attended the International DECA Career Development Conference include Nathan Brooks, Ryan Denish, Shelby Fuchs, Derick Homan, Luke Jarnevic, Jordan Long and Andrew Story.

The Lee’s Summit High School Chapter advisor is Susie Needles.

DECA’s internationally recognized program of competitive events uses interviews, tests, role-playing and written project reports to evaluate marketing, management and entrepreneurship skills identified by private-sector leaders as being essential for success in today’s workforce. DECA, an international association of high school marketing students, prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. Missouri DECA serves more than 8,500 students throughout the state (http://dese.mo.gov/divcareered/deca.htm).
