The National Education Association describes National Teacher Day as, “a time when thousands of communities take time to honor their local educators and acknowledge the crucial role teachers play in making sure every student receives a quality education.” This year’s event took place on May 4, 2010.
Few other professionals touch as many people as teachers do. National Teacher Day is a good time to learn about the contributions educators make to our community every day. We all have to work together to make our schools even better. That means everyone in the community. Parents, business owners, retirees, other workers, local government, and yes students. Public schools are at the heart of any community.
Students in the Lee’s Summit school district celebrated Teachers for an entire week commemorating this national day of significance.
At Greenwood Elementary, the Kindergarten students think their teacher, Mrs. Mary Andrews simply, “ROCKS”! Local mom Patsy Cruse has this to say about Mrs. Andrews, “Mrs. Andrews has been an amazing teacher. She is always patient and loving with the kids! She doesn’t mind getting dirty or getting down on the floor with the kids. Greenwood Elementary is VERY lucky to have a teacher like her on staff and I am very happy that my daughter had the honor of being in her class!!!”
Teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and teachers continue to influence us long after our school days are only memories.
