Darius Rucker among Missouri State Fair concert announcement

The Missouri State Fair is growing a great line-up of outstanding musical talent for the Fair in Sedalia August 12-22. Just announced are three additional concerts for the Pepsi Grandstand including country music sensation Darius Rucker, with tickets going on sale to the public through Ticketmaster starting May 20 at 9 a.m.

What Darius Rucker mostly feels these days is grateful . . . Grateful that the millions of fans that knew Rucker as the voice of Hootie & The Blowfish, the Grammy-winning group whose album Cracked Rear View sold more than 16 million copies, happily followed the singer/songwriter in his natural evolution to country music. Friday, August 20, Darius Rucker will perform hits from his first country album that debuted number one on the Billboard charts and featured the number one single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.”

Opening for Rucker is The Band Perry. These three siblings recently released their first single, “Hip to My Heart.” Tickets for both outstanding performers, Darius Rucker and The Band Perry, start at just $17.

Opening Day, Thursday, August 12, will feature the Eli Young Band and Candy Coburn. These two high-energy country artists will kick-off the Fair’s concert series with ticket prices starting at just $10 for grandstand and $15 for track.

Pop star Katharine McPhee will take the stage on Sunday, August 15. Concertgoers will enjoy songs from McPhee’s newest album “Unbroken,” and will remember McPhee as runner-up from season five of “American Idol.” Opening for McPhee will be Bomshel, nominated in 2010 for the Academy of Country Music Top New Vocal Duo. Concertgoers will enjoy listening to their songs “19 and Crazy” and “Fight Like a Girl,” recently nominated for 2010 Country Music Television’s Duo Video of the Year. Tickets for McPhee and Bomshel are $10 for grandstand and $15 for track.

Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe believes this year’s line-up offers a good mix of diversity as well as affordability. “It is my goal to book acts that appeal to a variety of audiences, as well as keep the prices affordable,” he said. “I believe we have accomplished this with our concert line-up for 2010.”

Also released at this time will be tickets for the auto races, sponsored by AAA Insurance in the Pepsi Grandstand. The Tuesday, August 17 race will feature Lucas Oil Non-Winged Sprint Bandits, MAMS and ULMA and Sunday, August 22 the historic half-mile track will host the MLRA/NRCA Late Model Challenge and the WoW 360 Sprints.

The announcement of the three concerts and auto races comes as phase two of a three phase ticket release plan the Fair introduced this year. Previously released concerts and already on sale are Sheryl Crow with Colbie Caillat and the Country Gold Tour along with tickets for all State Fair Arena events, the Pepsi Grandstand Truck and Tractor Pull and admission; tickets are currently available at www.ticketmaster.com.

Phase three will include the final three concerts in the Missouri State Fair Pepsi Grandstand series and will go on sale June 7 through Ticketmaster, offering yet another mix appealing to a wide genre of music fans.

Due to tickets being on sale early through Ticketmaster, the Missouri State Fair Box office will not be open for an early sales event. To receive E-mails about presale concert ticket opportunities, Wolfe recommends signing up now to become a Fair Fan, which is available online at www.mostatefair.com.

The Fair’s Box Office will be open on weekdays Monday through Friday starting June 28. Operating hours will be noon to 6 p.m. until August 11, and then it will be open during the 11-day Fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
