Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday for Buying Energy Star Appliances in April
Posted by GSDispatch Editor in by City of Lee’s Summit, GSD Online
Residents in need of a new washer, refrigerator, or other energy star certified appliances, might want to purchase them in mid-April. That’s because the City of Lee’s Summit is participating in the “Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday” that exempts city and state sales taxes on energy star certified new appliances from April 19 through April 25, 2010.
All retail sales of any energy star certified new appliance up to $1,500.00 per appliance will be exempt from Lee’s Summit sales tax during the seven-day period. However, all appliances are not eligible for this sales tax holiday, such as clothes dryers.
The following are Energy-Star-certified appliances that qualify for the sales tax exemption:
- Clothes washers
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Dishwashers
- Water heaters
- Furnaces
- Air conditioners
This Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday is being held for the second year. According to statistics, annually the average home spends about $2,000 on energy bills. Changing to appliances that have earned the Energy Star label can save $75 a year in energy costs while saving the environment.
