The Lee’s Summit R-7 School District will offer a summer driver’s education program at Lee’s Summit High School. Two sessions, June 1-June 18 and June 21-July 9, are offered. Students will meet in the LSHS Lecture Hall. Each session lasts three weeks and requires students to attend every day.
Two classroom sessions are offered with one from 7 to 9 a.m. and the other from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. In addition to classroom attendance, students are required to drive twice a week outside of in-class time. These driving times are for two-hour trips. All driving times are scheduled the first day of class with the in-car instructors. The in-car instruction times will be scheduled between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
To register for this summer classes, please contact Mary Kinman at Lee’s Summit High School (986-2000), Lana Hillier at Lee’s Summit West High School (986-4000) or Julie Edwards at Lee’s Summit North High School (986-3000). Each student must be 15 years of age before June 1 to enroll in the first session or 15 years old by June 21 to enroll in the second session. Fees for in-district students are $310 and $410 for out-of-district students. High school graduates and adults are not eligible for the district’s driver’s education program. Payment must accompany enrollment.

Please note that driver’s education students DO NOT need a state-issued driver’s permit. A special driver’s education permit will be issued to all students enrolled in the program. These special permits are to be used for driver’s education purposes only.
To enroll for driver’s education, students must provide proof of age (driver’s permit, driver’s license or birth certificate) and payment for the course. Each student is required to fill out general student information at enrollment. Students must also have an eye exam to participate. If the student has a driver’s permit, the eye exam is considered completed. If the student does not have a permit, he or she must complete an eye exam through the school’s health room.
