Just because you have reached the age of retirement it does not mean you cannot reinvent yourself to stay current with an ever changing world.
Or maybe you are looking to be rewired to discover new technology and ways of connecting with others just like you. More importantly, this is the perfect age to get re-inspired in the simpler things such as a new passion or artistic skill you thought you had once forgotten.
You can do that and so much more with the Metropolitan Community College-Longview’s BoomerBlast, an unprecedented opportunity to take free classes and connect with other baby boomers who are looking to discover new opportunities at work, at home or in the community.
“If you feel the world has changed since the last time you were in a classroom, community colleges can help. Learn new skills or brush up on the subjects you need to understand to stay in high demand,” said Mary Sue Vickers director of the American Association of Community Colleges Plus 50 Initiative.
With the help of the Plus 50 Initiative, a grant program aimed at getting boomers back into the classroom, MCC-Longview’s BoomerBlast will be free to anyone interested in classes or workshops and will provide a broad look at some of the resources offered here for continuing education. MCC-Longview is a public institution in Southern Jackson County dedicated to providing affordable, quality education, connections with the community and a powerful workforce.
“MCC-Longview is structured to help baby boomers chart their next steps during this special “third phase” of life, because we have a strong track record of meeting the needs of nontraditional students. MCC-Longview can offer 50+ adults guidance by providing flexible classes, connecting them with volunteer and work opportunities, and offering short-term educational programs that cater to their interests,” said Georgia Schmittling, coordinator for MCC’s Continuing Professional Education program.
Some of the classes provided during the BoomerBlast include:
