I haven’t belonged to any political organizations.

Are you associated with any of the current or past Aldermen or Mayors of Greenwood?

I personally know all the present and past aldermen and mayors. I don’t have any on-going associations.

What is your management style?

My management style is to meet and openly discuss any problems. I want input from all interested parties in order to reach an agreement that is satisfactory to all involved.

Do you practice forgiveness in your every day life? How?

I believe I am a forgiving person. I think there is a solution to every disagreement.

I attempt to address the issues and not demean the person.

What are your professional qualifications for the office you seek?

I have successfully managed Alrey Farms for 45 years. I understand the complexities of setting up a yearly budget and how to manage expenses to meet the goals of the budget.

I previously served on the Board of Aldermen for 4 years.

I served as park board liaison with Dan Vansickle to build the first shelter house at Hitt Park with volunteer help.

I also served on the board of the Middle Big Creek Sewer District. Because of the growth of the area, we were required to change the structure of the system to be served by the Little Blue Valley District, which now manages our total drainage area.

As road and bridge liaison I worked with the Board of Aldermen to upgrade some of our streets every year.

During the time I served on the board, we made the decision to put the Lee’s Summit Fire and Ambulance Service as our provider up for a vote by the people.

What is your agenda/platform?

My platform is to have a balanced budget to provide all the basic services to the city.

What do you think the biggest challenge Greenwood faces is?

The biggest challenge is to increase the tax base through business growth.

What do you think our city’s focus should be for the next two years?

I think the city’s focus for the next 2 years should be to resolve the litigation and improve the city’s image so we can look at the possibilities of a business park, and growth in the downtown area.

What are your top three priorities, goals to see accomplished if you are elected to office?

The top 3 priorities are the budget, expand the business community and bring in the Katy Trail.

Of those three priorities – what is your #1 priority for 2010?

The number one priority is the budget.

Like the National Economy, our City economy has faltered; what plans do you have to make Greenwood thrive again?

I plan to work with the Economic Development Corporation in building the business community. This will involve developing a business park and improving the downtown area. I am also a believer in seeking the recommendations of Mid America Regional Counsel.

What tough budget decisions do you feel need to be made in order to keep Greenwood running on a positive budget with the income the city currently has (not counting the jury award of 11.9 million)?

From past budget experience, with the city’s income properly applied to each department there are ample funds to provide the basic services. Not knowing the cost of the litigation and the end results, it is hard to predict what budget decisions will have to be made in the future.

What plans do you have to bring new business into Greenwood?

Plans to bring new business to Greenwood answered above.

What types of businesses would you like to see in Greenwood?

Service, manufacturing and family businesses.

What plans do you have to make our city safer?

We need more city sidewalks. The sidewalk on the west side of Allendale should be extended to Main St. with a school crosswalk and sidewalk to the school. There should be a school crossing at Main and Ranson with a crossing guard. The Board would work with the Police Department to make the police more visible to the public, which would help deter crime. We need a policeman at the school when busses are loading and unloading, as we have had in the past.

What resolution would you like to see to the issue of the Quarry and it’s traffic and the use of our city streets?

I think we have to take the position of waiting for the litigation to finish and then abide by the ruling of the court. The legal issues have exhausted the city’s finances and it will take time to recover.

What plans do you have to address the storm water issues our city is still facing or do you feel that the current plans are addressing those issues?

The storm water issue is an EPA mandated issue on which we must move forward. I would like to do it without having to impose a fee on each property as required by the mandate. We need time to work on the issue to better resolve the problem.

What do you propose to do with the parking issue or parking ordinance here in Greenwood?

The parking issue needs to be presented to the new board for assessment. We need a parking lot downtown in conjunction with the businesses and the Katy Trail as they develop.

What other improvements would you like to see in our community?

I would like to see more things for families such as a community center at Hitt Park or maybe located in the area of the Wilds.

Now that the appeals process is done and the city has been awarded the $11.9 million, what would you like to do with that money?

We can’t act until we know the final results of the litigation.

What is your opinion of the current political situation in Greenwood?

The current political situation in Greenwood shows position of 2 groups that are unwilling to work with each other.

What do you propose to improve the atmosphere at City Hall or how are you going to bring Greenwood together politically?

I plan to be open to discussions on issues looking at everyone’s point of view. I also plan to seek the desires of the citizens before making a decision on the issues. I will follow the correct parliamentary procedures. In a public meeting, present the issue to the Board of Aldermen, discuss the issue, and decide whether to put the issue on the agenda for the next meeting. At the next meeting after more discussion, it is put up to a vote. If it passes then the proper action is taken.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

We must proceed forward with a balanced budget that provides all the basic services to the citizens of Greenwood. We must bring to a close the litigations that are draining our finances and causing division among our citizens. We must support our Economic Development Corporation in order for businesses to choose to locate in Greenwood. With this I am asking for your vote. Reynolds for Alderman, Ward 1.
