On Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 State Representative Jeff Grisamore (R) 47th District in Lee’s Summit/Greenwood filed for re-election at the Secretary of State’s office in Jefferson City. Grisamore joined existing office holders and candidates seeking public office in lining up to wait their turn to file for re-election. Over 400 candidates filed for office on Tuesday in Jefferson City, the first day of filing. State Representatives, including Grisamore, have a tradition of walking from the Capitol to the Secretary of State’s office for filing—a walk of about a half mile.”
“I am passionately committed to serving constituents and helping Missourians in need and look forward to continue serving as State Representative for the 47th District if my constituents give me that continued privilege,” he said. Grisamore was first elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in an open seat election in November of 2006.
In 2008 Rep. Grisamore was re-elected by an overwhelming majority with an almost 20% and 4000 vote margin. Grisamore attributes his strong support in the 47th District to his commitment to public service over politics. “I love public service and disdain much of what goes on in politics,” said Grisamore. “I ignore so much of the junk that goes on in Jefferson City and keep focused on serving my constituents and helping Missourians in need, especially individuals with physical and developmental disabilities.”
Grisamore has also made his mark as a strong supporter of public education in Missouri. In 2008 Grisamore received the Missouri PTA state award for his work on behalf of children and has been endorsed in 2006 and 2008 by the Missouri State Teachers Association (MSTA) and was one of only two Republican House members to also be endorsed by the Missouri NEA. He has also been endorsed by the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) and the Missouri Associations of School Administrators (MASA) and the Missouri Associations of Elementary and Secondary Principals.
All of the Grisamore’s six school age children have attended Lee’s Summit R-7 public schools. His two oldest sons are members of the Missouri Army National Guard, with his oldest son currently serving overseas and his second born son in advanced army training. His remaining school age children attend Lee’s Summit West High School, Summit Lakes Middle School and Trailridge Elementary School.
As the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business, Grisamore is also very active in legislation to create jobs and grow the economy in Missouri. He has been endorsed repeatedly by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee.
Grisamore has received repeated awards as Legislator of the Year for his work and advocacy on behalf of those with disabilities. In his three plus years of serving in the House of Representatives, Grisamore has become recognized as a leader in the Missouri General Assembly on disabilities advocacy. “I am committed to support public education and strong schools in Lee’s Summit and Greenwood, create jobs and grow the economy and oppose tax increases,” says Grisamore. “At the same time, my greatest legislative passion is to fight and advocate for individuals with physical and developmental disabilities,” he added.
As Chairman of the Missouri Children’s Services Commission, Grisamore was honored this year by the Missouri Children’s Trust Fund with the prestigious Donavan Award for his advocacy for children in Missouri.
As a candidate for re-election this year, Grisamore points to his passion and commitment as a champion for children, an advocate for the elderly and a defender of the disabled.
Grisamore has served as one of five House Republicans n eastern Jackson County. With three of those seats term limited and another being vacated, Grisamore’s seniority among Jackson County Republicans serving in the Missouri House will move from fifth to first.
“I look forward to applying expanded influence for my District and Lee’s Summit and Greenwood in eastern Jackson County in the Missouri legislature.
