Correction: South Metro Fire Personnel removes deer from Lake Winnebago

Helicopters overhead this morning — the news summarized it as a water rescue, but a poor deer was stranded on the ice in the middle of Lake Winnebago. The deer tried several times to get up and move but it was hurt too badly; although no details on how it had been hurt. South Metro Fire Personnel was called and they crossed the ice to retrieve the deer. Unfortunately, the deer was suffering, so after pulling the it to the side of the lake, Lake Winnebago police shot the deer to put it out of its misery.

Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue is a great organization. They recovered some items for a good friend of ours several years ago – we were impressed with their professionalism and dedication back then and continue to hear good things about them. I’m with Phil on this one – I wish things had turned out better for the deer, but kudos to Lee’s Summit Underwater Rescue for helping out with this situation.

Oh yeah – we’ve had several stories involving these guys. They’ve done some great stuff over the years.

My apologies to South Metro Fire, it was their personnel, not the LS Underwater Rescue, who took care of the deer. Both organizations do a great job, but I need to give credit to South Metro. My mistake!
