The City of Lee’s Summit gears up to combat any possible effects of the predicted winter weather.  Public Works crews proactively began applying salt brine to City arterial streets over the last two days.  Salt brine acts as a barrier between the pavement and snow and ice.  Residential and collector streets are currently being treated with rock salt.  All city streets will be pre-treated by 6:00 p.m. today.

If accumulations of one inch are reached, crews will begin a plow-and-treat operation utilizing all equipment and manpower.  Plowing too early would remove the salt from the street defeating the pre-treating effort.

In the event of snow accumulations, residents are urged to remove vehicles from streets to prevent a delay in clearing roadways.  As a reminder, the City does not clear private streets, shopping areas, and certain private neighborhoods.

The City is taking every measure to be proactive in meeting the needs and safety of the City.  For more information about the City’s Snow Removal Policy as well as snow removal updates, contact the Snow Desk (816) 969-1870 or visit us on-line at: http://cityofls.net/Transportation/Street-Programs-and-Maintenance/Snow-and-ice-removal.aspx.
