Katherine McNamara does college-level math, reads the Wall Street Journal, subscribes to the Economist and at one point announced that she wanted to be the next Alan Greenspan.

She just turned 14.

The economy still fascinates her, but somewhere along the way she danced the role of Little Eva in “The King and I.” The experience changed her life, although she can’t say precisely what happened.

“All I know is the development of a character as well as being able to sing and dance and express myself in that way brought an indescribable joy that I can’t imagine getting anywhere else,” Katherine said.

Now the home-schooled Lee’s Summit kid, who was planning to start classes this month at UMKC, is in New York.
