More than 400 residents attended the City of Lee’s Summit’s 13th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Jan. 18 in the Pavilion at John Knox Village. “Service Keeps the Dream Alive” was the theme of this year’s event that featured dance and speech presentations.
The keynote speaker was Reverend Wallace Hartsfield Sr., pastor emeritus, of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Mo. This year’s performers at the celebration:
- The Northside Steppers of Lee’s Summit North High School
- Kiddie Kollege Primary School
- El Grupo Folklorico Atotonilco
- Heritage Dance Ministry
- Lee’s Summit North High School Jazz Band
