Lee’s Summit North Broncos finally catch a break at the end

Nine short days. That how long it had been since city rivals Lee’s Summit and Lee’s Summit North had last met on the basketball court. For Lee’s Summit North, nine days wasn’t nearly enough time to erase the memory of that game, when Lee’s Summit yanked victory out of their sweaty hands and won by two points. So this time — Friday night in the championship game of the Lee’s Summit Culver’s Classic tournament — LS North wanted nothing more than to repay the favor.
You could tell by the way 6-foot-5 senior Chase Salazar pulled down a late Tigers miss with authority, grabbing that rebound so his team could build on its lead with only 66 seconds remaining. But he lost the ball on a sneak attack by a Lee’s Summit guard, fouled the kid and then angrily yelled and stalked the paint, punishing himself for the misplay.
