Greenwood Elementary Locked Down as Precaution

Locked Up On Tuesday, August 25th, Greenwood Elementary school was locked down for nearly 20 minutes. Parents were informed of the lockdown but given no details.

According to Captain Robert Leslie of the Greenwood Police Department, they received a call which indicated an emotionally disturbed person had threatened to harm themself. When they arrived at the residence the subject had already departed and was observed heading towards the school in a vehicle. The individual was known to carry a firearm and has a child who attends the school.

Police protocol calls for caution around schools and a decision was made to lock the school. The subject was apprehended quickly and transported to Truman Medical Center Lakewood for observation and treatment.
